Technology Committee

The Technology Committee was put together with the approval of Pastor Damone Paul Johnson at the end of 2003. Its intent was to address two primary needs for Metropolitan at the time. First, there was a desire to expand our borders beyond the limitations of our immediate physical community to which we belong. A team of four put their time and talents together and the result is the web site that you visited today. Second, due to the rapid expansion of the Metropolitan Church body, we needed a member information system that would enable us to better manage membership and financial data. The latter is currently underway but progressing steadily.

Statement of Purpose

Utilize the power and efficiency of information technology throughout the church to enhance the winning of souls and development of Christian disciples.

You might ask, "How can IT enhance the winning of souls and development of Christian disciples"? Although this has proven to be anything less than easy it has indeed proven itself to be true.

  • Here are a few examples: Many of our members are not able to attend bible study on Wednesday nights due to other commitments like uncompromising work schedules, childcare, etc. but wanted easy access to the lessons. With the development of the website these individuals no longer have to miss the lesson they can view and print them online themselves.
  • Due to the number of worship services (three) and the resulting influx of new members coming to Christ and joining our church we have not been able to deal effectively with new believers. As you may already know, new believers deserve greater attention on many levels. With the upcoming purchase of our member information system we will be able to better manage these members and their walk with Christ. Allowing them to "fall through the cracks" is not acceptable for us.
  • Although the members of the finance committee have done an incredible job managing the church's finances it has proven difficult in recent years to manage under the dated manual system. Financials need to be readily available as the church grows on different levels simultaneously. With the new efficient way of managing finances for the church, finance committee members time will be able to utilize their time to further spiritual development for themselves and others.

As opportunities present themselves the Technology Committee members would like to take on other initiatives like training members with office productivity tools such as MS Word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint. This would better equip our members with the skills required by many of today's employers. We are also hoping to train young adults and children in the IT field hopefully bridging the gap otherwise known as the "digital divide".
